Lots of pontification and um'ing and ah'ing on the car front in the last few months, but headlines are:

- Selling the CSL in the next couple of weeks. Love her and she's tight as a drum, but increasing values and paucity of parts mean that I don't drive her as much as I should, and I worry about putting the miles on. Silly, I know, after 4 great years, but better that she goes to a good home. She's getting a couple of niggles sorted and will then be up for sale.

- I was a pussy on buying the GT3. Test drove a lovely 997.2 in the perfect spec, and boy was it impressive. Much more of a car than I am a driver. But ultimately, hard to justify spending £85k on a car when I am supposed to be buying a new house. Plus I have a suspicion that prices have topped out. Watch now as they soar inexorably upward.

- To cheer myself up, just agreed terms on another GTR from Litchfield. This one is stage 4, LM suspension, bigger Alcons, tranny cooler and downpipes. It won't be elegant or stylish, but it will be practical and can just about destroy anything else on the road. I also will have no concerns in ragging the pants off it.

Funny but a GT3 is my goal.
A 996.2 really but a) hard to find and b) stupid prices.

Likely to stretch to a 997.1, which are at c£60k now. That then opens up the R8 V10..

Never been a fan of the GTR's looks. Costly in a prang though? No denying its abilities though!

Welcome back to the Datsun club. the Litchfield suspension is awesome, compared to standard, a lot less understeer and more feedback through corners. I'm enjoying this GTR on the road better than the first, stage 4 and rolling launch control are good fun. Good mods on you car especially if tracking it.

Sorry to hear it is going Gregor. Fingers crossed there are no regrets afterwards. I keep thinking about selling mine as mine does not get used much either but with four cars in the house it is the only one with four seats and a bit of poke. In short if I get rid of it the only four seater in the house will be a 1.6 Mini Cooper .

What would I want to swap it for - ? A 997 GT3 RS. I have a 996 GT3 which by all accounts is more raw/analogue than the 997. I love it to bits and is a long term keeper. The RS would probably be more short term just to give it a go for a while (3/4 years hopefully). The 996 GT3 RS are way above what I would pay (circa GBP 150,000) now but I think that other models may have hit their peak (I hope). Fingers crossed the new 991 GT3 RS will knock prices a little. Unfortunately they seem to have a different customer base with all its electric gizmos and no stick .

Yup, the four seats requirement is a challenge. I could, hypothetically, buy a car with two seats, but the reality would be that I could only drive it in circumstances where I didn't have the family with me. Given that I get to work by train, that would mean I would hardly drive it at all. Hence buying the GTR - it's actually quite a practical car, for something with over 600bhp which pops flame out of the exhaust.

When I looked at the 997.2 GT3, JZM confirmed that they could fit seat belts and cushions in the back, so the kids could ride in 'comfort'. Obviously the scaffolding precludes that in a GT3 RS.
