Slight hesitation/idle drop issue solved
My car was suffering from a slight hesitation at low speed making it a total pain to drive, also the idle would drop to approx. 500 rpm before bouncing back to normal when coming to a stop.
I stripped the airbox out & cleaned the throttle bodies & Idle control valve, which seemed to improve things a little but the issues were still there. Then I came across this thread regarding the Vanos solenoid sealing plate: http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=89437 Note that I did not order the Besian replacement o rings, I just ordered a whole new sealing plate (o rings already fitted) & the revised torx bolts. I did not replace the coil pack. Fitting was pretty straightforward about 2 hours from start to finish. The car is now far quieter at idle & when driving & the car feels a lot more responsive & driveable. Well worth the £25 quid or so to get the job done. Here are some pics of the o rings on the sealing plate I removed, the seals were hard & plastic like & all split: Last edited by portlandgrey; 29-08-2014 at 08:21 PM. Reason: reduce photo size |
