Default Oil Temp and Volume Gauge Stopped Working Briefly

Anyone had this?

Today I looked down and realised my oil temp had suddenly gone to zero, scrolled through the menu and the oil volume said --.-

Water temp was fine, stopped, restarted car, didn't fix it.

Got home, reversed onto the drive, stopped with a bit of a shunt and suddenly it all kicked into life, gauge and volume!

Never had this myself but the trouble with cars these days is there are too many sensors and electrics. A complete 'reboot' is always a good first port of call ie shut her down and lock her up and then after a couple of minutes get back in and start her up.

I had an e39 M5 that apparently had more electrical computing power than the first space shuttle and that had grelims now and again ie automatic windscreen wipers stopping and the radio not coming back on after a Bluetooth phonecall.

I had it a very long time ago where the wee display on the stereo went very dark for a few moments but come back to life, never happened in a good few years since though.

She must have been having a hissy fit this day.

Couple of ex-BMW guys at work are fairly sure it's the sensor in the bottom of the sump packing up so I guess I'll change it in a couple of weeks time. Nice, because I'll have to drop the oil out.

It's a common E46 part but still £160. Nevermind eh.
