Default Importation Daftness

Currently getting the CSL imported into the UK from Ireland. In order to register it with the DVLA and get UK plates, I need to MOT the car first. It failed the MOT. Why? Because it did not have UK plates on the car! Aghhhh!

So anyways, after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, told them to change the colour and characters on the Irish plates to look like UK plates. MOT passed. But the plates are now illegal! So told them to take them off again and put the originals back on. Of course, I'm being charged for all of this.

Now I'm just waiting for the DVLA to issue UK plates, and then the originals come off and new ones go on.

So if anyone is up in Elms and see 3 different CSL's there...chances are it's the same one!!

That's what comes of being honest, how many do you see driving about on Eastern European plates?
Are there rules which apply to EU Countries ie. how long can you drive on original plates, whatever the country of origin?
Locally there is a Mercedes with Spanish plates, which has been knocking about for at least 16 months!

Yeah...know what you mean. The DVLA have told me it is illegal for a UK resident to drive on UK roads with foreign plates. I'm not taking any chances...that's why I have it parked at Elms until sorted. My insurance is already high enough!

You cant fail an mot for the plates, the test staton should have just tested it as it was displayed and added it as a vehicle to the database. Sounds like a garage with no idea to me. An mot has got to be done first then the DVLA re-issue a new cert when its registered as a uk vehicle exactly as they do when a cherished plate is transfered. The test station must have entered the reg number to even log onto the mot test anyway.

Yeah I know...I argued with them and kept going round in circles. I was up against a deadline and didn't have time, so I just told them to get on with it. Don't think they are too clued up with this situation.

They also put the colour down as blue on the cert!!...yeah, this application don't look dodgy at all to the DVLA! Am expecting a few clarifications.

'Blue' ? You better get that sorted quickly before you get a V5 stating colour: Blue, otherwise you'll be stuffed when/if it comes time to sell!

I'm hopeing I should be ok...I left a note with the application, plus the CoC, Irish log book, app form all state 'black'. After a bit of bollocking, I've since got VOSA to update their system and reissue a new cert.

Did you buy that car from a guy in Dublin?

Edit:
Just searched your previous posts and see it's history. Nice purchase. I didn't know it existed. Obviously tucked away by your buddy. Enjoy!

Cheers...yeah, tucked away alright...the only time he drove it in the past year was when I went to see it! Wouldn't be able to do that.
