Locking wheel nut stuck
Any of you mechanical heroes know how to remove a locking wheel nut without wrecking my dirty wheel?
The BMW key is rounding off and popping out when I try to undo this locker, I could take the car to BMW but till I get my power steering hose I don't want to drive it. Was putting my stud kit on yesterday and got the rear wheel and argh stuck fast. Not happy, I blame the tyre shop for air gunning the wheel nut in just before Spa when I had a new supersport fitted. The head and collar come off revealing a spline, which looked like my old lockers from my old E46 M3. any ideas as i'm stumped, tried breaker bar, with wood on it to help keep the locking head on, air gun, impact drive etc to no avail. You need an impact gun to remove, the hammer/impact action should loosen it off - fingers crossed!

Tried the tightening of the two bolts next to it.
Yeah we used an impact gun connected to my dads air compressor and nothing Might have to smack a socket over the top but thats last resort. Hmm maybe I should get a reverse thread socket... McGuard are they? I thought they were BMW ones! either way it's got to come off! |

Hi i had the same problem and contact macguard they sent me guides and drill bit to drill it out. They were really helpful. It still took a few hours but no damage was done. Never used locking wheel nuts again.

Impact socket, extension, breaker bar and a big hammer. Be off in 2 min.

Use the correct McGard key you shouldn't need a breakers/air/impact etc The BMW key is completely different type to what's needed.

It's not McGuard, it's BMW unless McGuard make the latest BMW lockers? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...32&hg=36&fg=25 Last edited by phoenixcsl; 22-10-2013 at 02:06 PM. |
