I was told(not sure if it is true)that the last 3 digits of your vin number was your build number e.g mine is 099.we should get as many as we can to add their name and last 3 digits to see if it makes sense.

Hence why I said I was told but weren't sure if it was true.
But surely BMW somewhere knows how to identify the production numbers and how to identify build orders.

They probably do, but it would take 'effort' to find out, which is a rare commodity these days.
I waited patiently at the BMW Parts counter the other day for 20mins before someone asked me "Are you being served?" to which I replied "No I Bl__dy well wasn't" humble and profuse apologies followed.
