Default Flaps

I've seen in previous threads that most people say go flapless. Does it really make a noticeable difference at low revs?

Found out a month or so ago that mine is flapless, had no idea, just assumed that was the standard noise they made!

The wife is always complaining about the noise it makes, as it wakes her up and also my daughter, and every time that happens it reopens the abuse for wasting a lot of money on an unsuitable car!!!

Would putting the flap back in make it much quieter for manoeuvring round the neighbourhood? Does it make a difference on the noise it makes when the engine is turned on, or is that more engine noise than induction noise?

Anyone else had a similar problem at home??

Don't think it makes a noticeable difference at idle or pottering around, when you start burying your foot a bit the sweet nectar induction "noise" will be more noticeable from lower in the rev range, whereas I believe the "flap" would open fully at like 5k when under hard acceleration. (May be corrected on that)

Most circumstances folks remove them only when they stop working, as its a common fault, although I never had this problem in my first CSL.

Might be exhaust rasp when cold?

As for the wifey gripes, mines the same, not so much about the noise, but more around spending monies, but this might help

It might be because I'm like 12, but the subject of this thread makes me think of meat flaps

Ha, I think suggesting earplugs would just add insult to injury!

No, apparently the solution is not to use it, then I get grief for having a car that never goes anywhere! Crazy world...

Who would believe that it would come to giving serious consideration to making a CSL quieter!

The potentiometer controlling the flap on mine stopped working a few years ago so I remember the flap for a while. It was noticibly noisier in the lower rev range but only under moderate/hard acceleration. I refitted the flap and out the car in to get it sorted under warranty.

FYI, there was a l potentiometer for sale on the cutters website the other day if my memory serves me correct. Just need a FLAP now!
