2013 - Euro Trip Northern Contingent
Euro Trip Northern Contingent – Please Queue Here!
Following the pre-Christmas suggestion by the Euro-Trip Management - shimmy: “I would recommend that each group/area set up their own thread in the Events section” I was eagerly anticipating a more established member posting something for the Northern Crew but nothing to date, they’re probably busy helping the Southerners to pack? So in their absence, I think the time has now time to stand up and be counted. The Proposal is as you are all aware for an extended weekend away: May Bank Holiday, 24th - 28th May, Venue: Munich to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the CSL and Trackday at the Salzburgring. Getting there; the easiest and most convenient route is probably the P&O Hull - Rotterdam ferry crossing. I would think that this applies to any members living North of Stoke-on-Trent (arbitrary) and would include any members from North Wales and the Isle of Man as being the closest crossing point to the continent. This route is also being considered by Irish Members (so good craic to be had by all) If you choose to travel this route and are not familiar, it's an overnight (10hr.45min) crossing, with P&O Departing Hull at 8-30pm. (be aware that the Check-in closes at 19.00hrs) arrival in Rotterdam at approx. 8.15am. the following morning. The cost is approx. £258 based on: car, driver only, includes a 2 person cabin (with Dinner on board £291) Return. http://www.ferrysavers.com/ An alternative route for members in Cumbria/Lakes, Durham, Nothumberland, etc. would be the DFDS ferry from Newcastle - Amsterdam (See Scottish Thread: http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9442) again an overnighter with 2 person cabin, however this route adds to the crossing time departing at 5.30pm. with arrival at 9.30am. (a later start for the journey to Munich) http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/ferry-r...-to-amsterdam/ Either route leaves approx. a 6hr plus, drive on the other side, to Munich (so a fair bit of sight seeing involved, albeit fleeting) Conclusion: Arrive Munich – whenever? Note: There are 15mls of Road Works between Junctions 25 and 27 with a speed limit of 50mph being strictly enforced by cameras at ¼ mile intervals, so delays are more than likely. You have been warned! Don’t forget to factor this in to your travel plans. Members traveling the M62, need to follow the A63 (outskirts of Hull) to the Ferry Port on Hendon Road, the A63 is lined with various petrol stations, several Shell ones adjacent to the end of the 62 with a BP Station almost adjacent to the Port entrance. I would suggest filling up at some point before boarding, ready for the road ahead. However, the stations closer to the port are more likely to charge premium prices (stating the obvious). It has already been suggested that we might consider meeting up and enter the port as a group, (what boards together, stays together) reducing the risk of any potential battle scares inflicted by children getting in and out of adjacent vehicles and careless adults with luggage passing. A suitable staging post, might be a Retail Park, there’s one on the right of the A63 ‘Clive Sullivan Way’ (MacDonald’s) on the outskirts of Hull. Not compulsory but may be prudent. Any thoughts, observations, suggestions, etc. more than welcomed. ‘The Homecoming – 2013” We’re not just tripping, we’re making history! The list of Northern attendees starts here: Neil M
