Auto Blip
Quick question on the auto blip on downshifts. If for example I'm approaching a red light and downshift using the paddles then as expected I get the 'blip' and nice smooth changes. If I decide to let the vehicle downshift for me then I sometimes get the 'blip' on downshift but more often than not I dont resulting in a very jerky downshift (particularly the 4th to 2nd gear). I cannot understand the inconsistency in the 'blip' when not using the paddles. Is this some sort of issue? Can anyone confirm what their CSL does? Many thanks

hello mate
yea i know what you mean changing up or down at speeds is fine but lets face it the SMG gearbox is a bit of a clunky old hector when not being used in mallis, i often get that 4-2nd clunk you describe and somtimes think how did they pass this of in testing as being ok but then when you on full tilt on a B raod it all comes clear, i think as a first attempt (or second as it may be) its a pretty good system not perfect but good, im sure the DCT im the new m3's haved ironed out all these problems. in a weird way i find that because the box isnt perfect and there is a element of driver input required to get the perfect shift (like a slight lift of when changing gear) that it makes the car more enjoyable when you do get it right.

Thanks for the reply. I suspected it was just a characteristic of the SMG box. Suppose I shouldn’t judge the box too harshly as it works like a dream when driving hard. I know exactly what you mean about the satisfaction in smoothing out the shifts though I’m still to perfect it but just gives me an excuse to go out for a drive!
