it was only a question i was asking as other m3 owners told me about turning dsc off fully but when tried it didnt work so i guessed it didnt have that feature.i have a problem with too much wheel spin thats why im asking.you guys obviously far more experienced than me so it no hardship to ask a quetion.seeing that all summer this year bmw have had my car due to ruining it fitting diff subframe.ive only driven it in snow or rain due to them ruining it.

If you have a problem with too much wheel spin try track mode but that go the other way and be too intrusive, they aren't easy to get off the line, low speed traction isn't the best attribute of any BMW.
Bottom line though is one press on the DSC button on an M car and it is off, it'll let you crash and everything

The DSC in the normal E46 can be turned off in two stages, but in the E46 M3 it's either on or off. Some idiots (e.g. on cutters) seem to believe some folklore that there is a magical two stage process on the M3 as well, but there isn't. CSL has on, off or m-track.

Thanx guys.thats fair enough.its what I thught but I only asked to see if it was true.ivr turned it off but have no desire to crash.just gotta learn pull offs.just hate when ya pull hard and it overrides you takes its time to turn off.ya get into second then dsc stops ya again gets annoying.

That's actually incorrect. What the gent is describing is a two stage DSC off feature that was only available to all E46 M3 produced up until about middle of 2002 - everything afterwards had new DSC unit (internally known as DSCIII), the earlier E46 M3s had DSCII - if you look at the physical modules they are actually different. The pre mid 2002 E46 M3s had a so called "Dyno mode" built into the DSC system, whereby if you hold down the DSC button for 10 to 15 seconds it throws the DSC into a Completely off mode - i.e. even if you try to re-engage DSC it doesn't come back on - you had to turn the car off to get it back. What this mode did and how it differed to the normal "off" mode is that the system no longer sensed the front wheel speed sensors, thus allowing the car to be dynoed (i.e. rev past 6500rpm). The post mid 2002 E46 M3s (CSL included) also has a "Dyno mode" built into the DSC system, but the procedure for engaging this mode is different and is no longer a single button push feature, but rather a multi step feature. I however don't see how the hard off will help you accelerate off the line as it has no bearing on clutch drop, clutch engagement ect ect ... Also there are two launch modes ... a soft throttle engagement and a full bore throttle "burn out" mode ... what you've described by smashing the throttle to the floor at a fast rate engages the "burn out" mode - thus the hesitation off the line. Hope that helps. |

M Track mode - why? CSL should have been standard with TC off always & sport on.
