50-60k mileage CSL - Safe buy?
Hi there
I am contemplating maybe, I repeat maybe returning to CSL ownership. Really has to be silver grey, seems there is a lot of black ones for sale, some quite nice ones too, but I love SG. So question is, this engine is one designed for track use and most CSL's have had plenty of track work. So question is a 50-60k CSL a safe bet, do the engines suffer with mileage, loose power, explode etc, need rebuilds? I'd plan on doing 5-6 track days per year, would run MPSS or Cups, get geo setup, AP brakes all round and probably go with supersprint exhaust setup. So is a 50-60k mileage CSL OK and will it keep running fine and be happy to do 10-20 track days in my ownership? I've seen them for sale with 120k on the clock, so speaks well for the engine, but of course such cars could have thrown huge bills. Am I right to assume that a sub 60k mile example will cost less to put BMW extended warranty on and if so how much is it per year for sub 60k miles and over 60k miles? |

The sub 60,000 mile extended BMW warranty is £80 a month for a fully comp policy with a zero excess, if you are extending an existing policy. Starting a new policy is more expensive and over 60,000 miles I think the price doubles.

If you buy a car with and existing policy in place, you need to inform them of a change of ownership. When it comes time to renew the policy, you can either opt for the annual, or monthly payments.
If the car is approaching 60K my advice would be to opt for the Monthly payments as 'syndown' says it's £80 per month, providing under 60K. However this will continue to be the case for as long as you keep the car without attracting any additional premium, irrespective of mileage

Whether u pay monthly or annually BMW review ur premiums every 12 months on policy anniversary. See your policy handbook if u don't believe me. Maybe they have only changed like this recently. Also warranty excludes track work. Not sure about modifications. Requires FBMWSH I believe. |

So the warranty is void if you go on track? Guess its a case of BMW cannot prove if the car failed on a public road or a track though, so pretty much a null argument? |

Exactly. Unless you phoned them and said the car wasn't working; half of it was at Paddock Hill, the other half at Druids.

Nick Johnson has what looks like an exeptional black one for sale, only two owners and low miles which is rare for a CSL to have so few owners, looks like not much track work too. I'd be seriously tempted by it, just don't want a black car!! |
