Default Can pot holes really do this?

Hi

I am looking at a car and he said a (i think single) rear coil spring/wishbone was replaced due to pot hole from the road. Can pot holes really do this? Is this common on E46 M3s?

I am hopefully viewing it on Saturday and getting it inspected that day too.

E46 Coil springs can go seemingly just by looking at them, so could definitely be triggered by a pothole.

Wishbones can be really weak. In fact any road use over 30.29 mph could cause catastrophic failure. You have been warned.

Springs, particularly rear springs are a common consumable on these cars. Even Eibachs go on them. Mate had one go, but Eibach replace it under their lifetime, million mile warranty. ( I think it's a Million mile warranty, sounds stupid when I say it out loud...)

I just checked with the BMW Dealer they said both rear coil springs and both front wishbones and their brackets were replaced.

They said that is "normal" well the Service Manager did after refusing to conduct a AUC Check for me

It's nothing to be concerned about, if one spring is cracked they change both, happen on my BMW with less than 20K on the clock. Front wishbones are less common, but still happens.
I wouldn't worry about it, it seems well maintained.

Does is drive right?
