Default Newbie - Oil changes how often?

Hi

I want to know how often should the oil be changed on the BMW S54B32?

I have seen there are examples that:
-have not had their oil changed for a whole year
-have had their oil changed with a 15000mile difference

Given the high revolution concept of the NA straight-six is this a concern?

if were buying I'd want to see evidence pref of BMW oil changes every service interval and if the car had been tracked id prefer to hear of one more change at 6000 intervals.

be wary of Indy oil changes ad too often I have seen the wrong oils used Nd then the history covered up.

Thanks shimmy I appreciate your advice.

i saw one with
oil service 12500 04/07
inspection I 26000 06/09
oil service 33000 01/11

I thought this is too far apart even though it has FBMWSH?
What kind of owner owns these cars then does not give them the love they deserve?

I stick mine into BMW for an oil and filter change around every 3000 miles.
Insist that they also change out the Vanos filter, only adds an extra £10 to the bill and is worth £000's in preventative maintenence

Wow.
Is your CSL standard?
Have you been tracking yours or just road use?

Vanos filter is a tiny oil filter which sits at the end of the vanos unit in a pressure valve thingy, it's prone to get clogged which in turn then causes premature wear on the vanos unit itself, as far as I understand it's not a BMW servicable item, it's only changed if you request it.

I change mine every 6-10k as a matter of cause, takes about 10 mins to change it over max.

That's quite normal, although the gap from the running in service to 04/07 is maybe a bit long. Wouldn't put me off anyway if the mileage checked out.
