M3 DBW throttle motor photos sought
Looking for detailed photos of the DBW M3 throttle actuator motor and set up, as I am thinking of using it on another multiple throttle body straight six engine. Thanks

Hi,
Its just a Stepper Motor that is bolted to the side of the engine block. It has a rod with plastic rod ends, that attach the stepper motor to a link on the main bar that passes through the TB's. All the workings are really in the software which reads via the TPS and the Throttle pedal Peton [6 or so wires]. Regards, The Gorilla. |

Thanks, would still like to see photos. What does it use for the feedback position sensor, a separate pot to the throttle pot, or combined? I intend running it off my M800 Motec ecu, which has DBW enabled. It's initially to go on an RB26 Nissan engine, then one is going on a Bonner V6 race engine, which has a slide throttle. Cheers.

Hi,
I believe that Motec now have a Map that will drive the Stepper Motor and compensates via engine temps so you can program / set the ITB's for Idle at cold and they calibrate via the opening/position of the stepper motor when warm, as opposed using the Idle Air Intake Valve etc. Otherwise I am guessing your going to have to fit some sort of Idle valve set up for the ITB's. I have no pics of the Stepper Motor in-situ, and the Air Box needs to be removed for a good picture. Is there nothing in the Pic Gallery ? I run a Manual Throttle on another S54 engine [6 pot] and find it much more linear than the E.Gas / DBW. I would guess that your looking for the ability to be able to alter Throttle angle V Pedal angle input ? Personally I prefer the crispness of the Cable, but each to his own. Regards, The Gorilla. |

Warm up compensation and idle speed control won't be an issue on the RB26 as it has an idle control valve as well as the throttle bodies, and the other is a pure race engine, so no idle control is really needed there. So does the positon feedback to the ecu come from a single throttle position sensor, or has it a dedicated one for the DBW, as well as one for the main fuelling / ignition mapping in the ecu?
It's mainly to allow implementation of traction control via throttle opening. |

Hi,
The S54/CSL just runs the single TPS and a Pressure sensor with Air Temp for its Bastardised Alpha N. The standard S54 / M3 runs a single TPS but usees a MAF on the Intake as it does not run a Alpha N type map. The Siemans MS S54 ECU defaults to Alpha N for Limp Mode.
