Default Helmets...

Any good suggestions for where to get a helmet from for trackdays? Had a look at the likes of demon tweeks etc, but wondered if there was anywhere better?

Assuming the best plan is to go and try a load on, so anywhere nearish London would be good.

I got my Sparco helmet from Merlin Motorsport at Castle Combe circuit.

I think GPR Direct is still another option too.

Mmmmmm ...with photo evidence of some !!

Consider these guys also, met Roger at a recent trackday, The Racing Line, a new TDO use his helmets and i tried one, they are very good imho, and priced right at £130, why spend £400~500 on an Arai ?? they are also Motorsport approved, note that Steve mac if you dont already have one mate ! I shall be getting one of them myself

Do most run with a full face helmet or open style? I ask because I still do not own one as I have only tracked my car in Deutschland and like the wind in my hair - if I had any (well a bit more at least - in the right places)!

Three replies before this, i'm disappointed. The forum must be improving....

Thanks for the suggestions, will take a look. Will be going full face as i'm a chubby (faced) fooker anyway.

I read somewhere once that Motorcyle and Motorsport helmets weren't really interchangable as they were designed for different types of impacts? (i.e. repeated bangs, or heavy impact and then slide). Is this right, or could i just buy a bike lid as i'm going to get my licence at some point. really. honest. I just haven't got round to it yet.

I think that is the case. Having said that, I ride motorbikes and use my bike Arais for car trackdays and karting.

Tbh I think this is More sales gimmick than fact

Having rode bikes and had a big crash my helmet took a serious beating, first a car then the road then a curb, all big impacts. Fact is it is designed to protect your head from impact and bike lids work
How can bike helmet manufacturers know where you are riding, where you are falling off, what is round you when you fall off, simple answer is they can't. It is simply designed to protect your head.

Whether car or bike lid, don't buy cheap, you only have one head.
