Update on Rattling / Running issues
Right ... car now in, had a very helpful tech guy come out from BMW emergency services ( 5 series estate chap ) spent a good 45 mins diagnosing and checking everything through, re-set codes, run , re-set etc etc
Appears to be Oxygen and Lambda Sensors ( all of em ) that have gone down, which is weird to all sensors fault, but they were causing over fuelling and the vanos was over compensating (hence the noise) steadily got worse after driving back to dealer, cutting out at junctions etc etc , so im now at home waiting for arrival of loan car, with fingers crossed it's not a corsa / fiesta or something equally as exciting So hopefully a fairly straight forward warranty repair and the old girl is back with me next week or the following

Aye, those '5 series Estate' boys know their stuff. I had one help me out with a seized calliper a couple of years ago, very nice man.... very very nice man. Nicer than the Kwik-Fit fitter anyway!
Good luck on the courtesy car, you have to let us know what it is mate. Look forward to hearing that. My last one was a 116i, and before that a Diesel ASTRA!!! Keep us posted |

Or the vanos is fucked and because of the overfuelling, under fuelling its throwing lamda faults.
Fault codes give an indication of an error, and you have to try to find the cause of the fault, if it was as easy as plugging a computer in and replacing components any monkey could do it. We have lots of engine lights on and rough running, they regularly throw the o2 sensor fault up, this is merely an affect of the more deeper fault. A simlpe hole in an intake on a car can throw up o2 sensor faults due to incorrect fuelling. You could throw o2 sensors at it all day and the same fault would appear. Just a thought from an educated brain |
