AP calliper reconditioning
I have had my AP callipers (front ) for nearly 3 years and they have covered 40k miles and a number of track days SO i am off tomorrow to get them reconditioned and refitted
Anybody else done this and had any issues/problems (see below link to AP recommedations) http://www.apracing.com/calipers/inf...onditioning_13 |

Had mine done, needed a couple of pistons due to corrosion.

At Simpsons today and all planned brake maintenance done now.
Front calliper 12 seals and 4 nipples changed - no corrosion Old seals were brittle so well worth doing New geo and rears rims tested on front all ready for trial at Bedford next week. Last edited by shimmy; 11-11-2009 at 09:09 PM. |

Don't get me on to this subject
I bought a 2nd hand full set of APs in July and they're still not on the car The calipers have been to Godspeed, Questmead, AP and are now with a guy who services brakes for the racing fraternity. AP wrote these brakes off all the nipples were seized and snapped on attempted removal, all pistons and seals needed changing. AP said they wouldn't repair them and I would have to buy new The guy who's got them at the moment says they will be A1 when I get them back and the nipples will be easily serviceable as they will be sat in steel and not alloy. I may have them on for xmas a lot of time and money has gone into the worst 2nd hand purchase I have ever made I wont even go into the disks and bells that were sent with the callipers Back to the subject, I would highly recommend servicing at regular intervals and anyone purchasing a 2nd hand kit, do yourself a favour and make sure it has been serviced when removed from the car, even better buy new! My second hand kit price, plus repair and service is going to be more than a new kit |

i agree that second hand can be counter productive and not any cheaper in the long run BUT the AP stuff is pretty robust
AP produced new nipple covers which better protected the nipples from corrosion. AP gave me mine when they did some repairs to my original discs. Saved me a bunch of trouble i reckon. Simpsons said they have had quite a few with nipples snapping off and some with corrosion to the calliper pistons. I suggest you all get in touch with AP (Pete Collen) and ask to be sent some new nipple covers or get them fitted with new seals when reconditioned BUT i have to add if m car has done 50k miles and numerous trackdays before service, they are a pretty good piece of kit. You should all note that race parts like brakes and suspension get reconditioned every year normally and when buying either second hand you should factor that into the price. |
