CSL Cup Croft Race 1 - Driver Steve Gill
Fun race, but I threw it away. Started 5th, up to 4th by first corner, then 1/2 lap later number 2 (Jamie Martin) hit number 3 (Geoff Steel) and both cars were out - allowing me up to 2nd. The car behind me caught me (Thorney) and got past me on the pit straight (I braked too early ), so I was in 3rd, and then the guy behind me caught me (Mark Steward) - he was faster but I defended for a while, until he tried to overtake me on the pit straight and went sailing into the gravel
However he had the last laugh - he caught me up and overtook me when my gearbox crunched going from 3rd to 4th (18:27 on the video) Finished 4th in the end - disappointed about losing 3rd, but I was slipping lap times as I think my tyres were getting too hot - the car was sliding arouind way too much http://www.vimeo.com/6243128 |

Good video and well done Steve. If 3rd/4th gearchange hadn't played up you would have made one place better for sure. Croft looks like fun!
Hope the gearbox is OK. Look forward to Snetterton in September.

Glad you filmed that Steve, I was standing at the end of the pit straight for the first race so missed the "shunt"!!
But good driving in both races mate. I will load some pictures/video up later.

Steve am I right in saying you've still got your house keys on your key ring
great vid I bet your heart stopped for a second when they touched in front of you, it didn't look like there was much vision with all that smoke. I hope the damage wasn't too severe for both cars |

Full race report should be up tomorrow, the video from Jamies car will be a bit of a web hit methinks
Jamies cars was new bumper, wheel, strut, wing, light, grill, trim and bonnet, Geoofs was side sill, door, wing. Both pretty much cosmetic, impressive when you see the video. Incident was investigated, BARC declared it a racing incident and no penalties imposed. Jamie apologised to Geoff. |
