running In Service
Hey I'm sure this subject has been done to death, however to start the debate again how important is the running in Service now these cars are 10 plus years old?
If you found the right car but it didn't have the running in service until 2k would that put you off? |

I can't see what difference it makes now. Unless it has a new engine.
I'm sure others may disagree |

It wouldn't put me off if the rest of the history stacked up, however given that the Running-In service is probably the most important service in the cars history, the fact that it was late should be reflected in the sale price.
(Ideally 1,200mls max 1,500mls)

It'd certainly put me off, but obviously a lot of other factors to take into consideration too i.e. mileage and the rest of the service history, owners, condition etc. You could always pay for an inspection (BMW or specialist) including compression test etc - could be money very very well spent. No cars cheap if it's fu*ked.

Mine was bang on 1200 for the 1st service, the engine still went pop. Luck of the draw... Faultless full BMW service history.
You either find one inside the 1200 to 1500 to make you feel happy.. but how can you put a figure on knocking someone down if it's 500 miles over? On a 10 year old car.... Warranty IMO is worth jack shit these days |

My car had running in service late, just over 2000 miles, got a compression test done and its perfect! I would have thought that's more important than a car that had its running in service on time but doesn't have good compression

ie an owner has placed warranty on the car at some point(mondial will accept most vehicles as they're screening is minimal) Getting a warranty claim approved is the acid test.. No warranty no issue. Come resale mind you'll have the same question raised by prospective buyers.....no running service til 2K blah, blah etc . All depends ultimately on your plans for the car Keeper ( they very rarely are ) or 12 month tenure. |
