magnesium wheels
hi all,i have a good mate who runs a large machine shop and also casts various metal parts .for a couple of months weve been discussing wheels and he,s going to try and copy my csl wheels in magnesium also making them thicker on the hub face area to do away with the need for unsightly spacers ,
he says they will be twice as light and loads stronger ,just have to pay for metal ,i,ll keep you posted and will send some pics to mark when i can |

What sort of finish would you get? Maybe good for track.
will be just like standard so im told .then they get tested and x,rayed .machined face for hub ,12mm wider offset than standard .bloke near newcastle ses he can match original finish for£40 per wheel if i do the prep ,sanding ,etch primer etc. if all goes to plan it will be something unique for £760 . fingers crossed |

Sounds like a plan. I think I might have to invest in some of these....

Guys,
Magnesium rims are okay for racing as the teams x-ray them for internal cracks after every race. For the road, it isn't such a good idea! If these cracks develop, the rim will just rupture just when you are putting plenty of stress through it (ie hard cornering or braking). If any of you do bikes, forged aluminium and carbon fibre wheels are used but only the racers use mag wheels... |
