Resetting electronic oil level sensor ?
Hi,
My oil level, checked using the hidden oil dip stick, is at the max but the onboard computer screen mention "+0.4". Looks weird to me as - if I have well understood- it should read "+1.0" when the oil level is at the max. I have asked at my BMW dealer and for them it is fine . Any clue form your side ? Do you know if it is possible to reset the electronic oil level sensor ? Thanks ! JMP |

not flashing numbers show you the old longterm level. what means the oiltemperature is to cold or your car isn't horizontal parked . if the display shows only lines, measurement isn't ready. @+ |

If it is any consolation the last time my car was in for an Inspection II at a BMW dealership the oil was replaced with the correct 8 litres (? correct me if that is the wrong figure) the electronic measurement still showed the level as a number below the 1.0 (full) level. They asked if I wished to have the sensor investigated/replaced and I said no, not to bother.
This to me typifies the poor efficacy of electronic sensors over a dip stick. Pip |

So "long term measurement" ie. the direct reading on the on board computer it giving "+0.4L".
in contrast, the "quick measurement" (actually not that quick...), using the process described my m3power -merci-, and also captured in the on-board booklet is giving "+0.8L". according to the dip stick, the oil level in at the max, so the reading should be "+1.0L". conclusion: the "quick measurement" appears better, but the electronic gauge is not very accurate. Better to remove the airbox from time to time for checking the oil level with the dip stick. i am sure I just reinvented the wheel... |
