Winscreen repair or replace?
I have developed two small chips on the let hand side of the windscreen.
Do you have experience with National Windscreen to carry a repair (similar to Autoglass) or a replacement? This company is linked to my insurance (admiral) and I just have to pay £ 25 excess for repair and £75 for full replacement. Theoretically I would prefer a replacement but I am unsure about a) whic type of non OEM windscreen they use b) the quality of the job. BMW dealer will quote me £500-700 Any experience with aftermarket windscreen specialist? Should I insist to have an OEM part?

My window was replaced by bmw £560
I paid it then the insurance company repaid me taking off the £75 I wanted a BMW stamp on the window. I would think they would do a good job who ever you go with but a replacement is always the best move i would not want it repaired but thats just me |

My insurance company agreed to pay for a new OEM screen. Had to get it specially authorised as autoglass wouldn't order at first. Ins company just said as long as it's less than 1k they would pay.
....lasted 3 months and I've broken another one.

I asked this question when I had my E60 M5 to a local windscreen company who done the screens in our vans & trucks. The reply I got was although it was a bit more hassle for them they always just used genuine BMW screens because of all the sensors mounted around the mirror surround.
So might be worth trying this angle to get a BMW screen. |

I've had a few cracks repaired in my screen.
I'd personally prefer to repair it unless its really bad. I can fully recommend rob (can't remember his companies name, but I'll find it if you're interested) he's done mine twice now. Biggest repair he's done is a five foot crack in a coach window. Iirc it was £300 to repair. To replace it would have been £3000 and it would have been off the road for a few days. His number is 07967-546355 |
