tyre woe's!!
Cesil is in the stealers @ the moment. Long story short... Had to do an emergency stop to haul up behind a non-sign displaying hedgecutter.
After pulling away i felt vibration on the steering wheel. Pulled over to inspect & found both front tyre inside edges(1 inch) equally stripped to the canvas. Had the car recovered as i thought it was terminal suspension failure. The dealer found no mechanical fault with the front end at all and has concluded the alignment is out. Therefore new cups and full geo and it's as good as new. Has anyone experienced the same? Any info would be appreciated. Ben. |

Ben, sounds like a set up issue to me but, how old are those Cups? If you look on side walls there's a code for manufacture date.
However, I had a similar issue with some rear cups a few years ago. I bought them new but didn't take note of the actual production date. When nearly worn there was equal wear across the tyre but the inner edge had appeared to almost tear away showing canvas and steel wire along the entire circumference. They had done several TD's but I noted the manufacture date was 2004! Considering I bought them new from a tyre dealer in 2009 I figured they failed this way because they had hung around for so long and degraded. I have a picture somewhere. I'll put it up later this week for interest.

Latest from the dealers- track rod locking nuts could not be freed even after a bit of heat so they need replacing. Warranty peeps rejected my offer of them paying for them! "item has not failed but is u/s as a result of corrosion not mechanical failure"
comprehensive warranty is a very vague description. reading my policy this pm has been an education. Hopefully collecting cesil tomorrow. |

Alex,
don't know how old the tyres were as they're now in the bmw skip but had them fiited in May 2011. I did consider putting them up on the forum for the TD boys as a freebie but was advised against. Steel was not visible but a good deal of canvas. New cups on now along with track rods and full geo.....looking forward to a decent day. Ben. |
