Default Nurburgring24hrs Tips n tricks

Group of us looking to do our first trip to the Nurburgring24hrs this year and just wondered if anyone had any tips n tricks?

Any comments appreciated, but in particular we are trying to decide on accomodation options:
1: hotel (bit late to book one in good location?)
2: luxury winabago (...well, actually a battered Iveco. But it does have 2 double beds, a shower and a garage for mountain bikes)
3: hammock + rain sheet

I actually quite fancy booking a hotel for the 2 nights either side of the race and the using the hammock option to "combat kip" in the woods during the race. Is this feasible?
Failing that, we can take the "winab-iveco" but will be able to park it anywhere near the track (bearing in mind we probably cant get there till the weds before)?

Do you think tickets are important? As im not that bothered about sitting in the grandstands.

like i say, all/any advice welcome.
cheers
