Default Xenon question

Sorry it's about my daily drive Audi but i'm not a member of any Audi forums to ask this question on

Its an older D2 model S8 year 2000. (same as the one in Ronan)

Problem is that with ignition turned on (car not started) when the headlights are switched onto the dipped beam the O/S takes about 4sec longer to come on than the N/S.

If i then turn the key to start the car both lights go out (as expected) but only the N/S will then come back onto dipped beam.

Same situation if the cars running and the headlights are swiched on, only the N/S works.

Bulb is fine as it works with car not running.

Everything else works as normal eg side lights, full beam and front fogs.

Ballast?
Igniter?
Whats the difference between the two or are they the same thing as in contained in the same housing?

Hope thats clear

I would say ignitor, but swap over what ever is easiest (ballast or ignitor) and if the problem moves to the other side you have your culprit.

Forgot, not sure on where te ballast is on the Audi, but the ignitor will be attached to the fitting that goes over the bulb, whilst the ballast will plug into the ignitor. Hope that helps.

Cheers

Nothing except the bulbs are easy to get to.

Managed to buy a replacement OEM ballast kit for the light so will try that 1st so hopefully do the trick. looks to have the igniter inc as part of it.

Typical as i've just stuck it up for sale
