Finally...
...taken the plunge and bought a CSL, which I'm picking up on Friday
It's a black Jan 04 car, standard, 33k miles, under BMW warranty etc., verrrrry nice indeed. Will be upgrading the brakes later in the year (when my wallet has come out of shock...lol) Short term, I need to decide what to do about handsfree (only a matter of time before I get 'done' again if not...lol) and iPod integration (I know, I know it makes a great noise as-is...but there are times when I NEED my playlists lol). I change my phones quite regularly so Bluetooth is the only way to go... The question is, Parrot (had the MKi9200 recommended), or a new head-unit? (know Alpine do a few but it's a pretty bewildering range). I don't need Nav (got a TomTom for that) Any thoughts/experiences/opinions on the mobile/music front? I'm not interested in major speaker/amp/sub work...just decent, convenient sound & phone. Thanks in advance & great forum (far better than PH...lol) |

I have a Dension Gateway 100 for iPod integration in my M3, on the stanard headunit, and have been happy with it. It's worth getting it professionally fitted though as the documentation is crap and they can be an arse-ache to set up. Parrot was the recommended BT solution when I enquired about it. I think Dension do an integrated Ipod/Bluetooth product, but I'm not sure how good it is.

Regarding in-car hands free, i can't speak from experience but mark csl (Admin on here) deals in Parrot kits and may well be able to do you a good deal if thats what you decide on: http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2853

Welcome,
In terms of next moves. 1. Denison 100 (you can keep the car original) and still use the headunit buttons. One day I hope they incorporate a dab tuner version. 2. Parrot OK. However if you have a sony phone, buy their equivalent bluetooth. 3. And when you can....Alcon BBK, RS29 Pads and Castrol SRF (sublime big brake kit and stopping power) mainly for lottery winners. 4. The other 'must' is a Supersprint Lightweight. See the group buy section Best Jonathan

Thanks guys - for the advice & the welcome!
Car is from Brooklands (Exeter)...just HAD to have it after the test drive. 'Almost' did a few years back but ended up getting a GT3 instead...been there done that now & really wanted a CSL...plus I need the back seats & boot space for my 3y/o daughter (lol) Just sold my 996 Turbo...many would disagree...but I was VERY disappointed with that (fast enough I guess but just not interesting...and as a GT the SL600 I had a few years back wiped the floor with it!) Really can't wait to get it now (Friday)! Lol @ Supersprint...problem is I'd have to have manifold & sport cats too (which = big bucks!) be keen to know how loud they actually are (I attracted FAR too much BiB attention when I put a Manthey K400 on my GT3...that was bloody awesome tho!) I put a Denison kit in my 996 C4 (post GT3...and nothing like as good...so I sold it...lol), wasn't too bad an install (bit annoying fiddling with trim in the front), but I wasn't too keen on it (thing locked up quite regularly & then would work again after I switched the car off for a few min). Guessing Parrot is the way to go...gonna look a bit more into alternative Head Units (think I'll suss out the stock head unit/speakers first tho & see if I feel the need to upgrade the HU) Not going to waste mega-bucks on ICE...saving it for BRAKES (though the temptation to go for POWER is strong...zorst & remap & headers...lol) |

I run an alpine, fuck knows what model, with built in bluetooth, perfect, crystal clear sound. With Ipod lead in glovebox, job done
