leaking pipes
Off to the dealer in the morning as discovered that at least one of my air con pipes is leaking fluid (oil?).
anyone else suffered from this ? I'm hoping extended warranty covers the problem - the air con system is not listed as an exclusion on the BMW/Mondial policy terms. the problem is by the lower air intake - one of the metal joins/seals seems to be weeping oil, which is then dripping down onto the larger pipe below. seems to be a build-up over time rather than spilling out rapidly. can this cause any other issues ? - would be useful to know what the dealer should be doing as you never know what they're going to react like. Have also notice that the power steering pipes/connectors at the front of the engine (front lower, behind the front lower spoiler) are severely corroded. Common issue ? Again, covered by warranty ? thanks |

Re: leaking air con pipes
Quote:
this sounds a bit strange ,im an air con tech and would like some more detail if poss ,seems strange for seals to be leaking on a car of this age ,also bmw are iffy when it comes to air con ,as they fill their systems with different colour dye , oil etc .if it has been refilled with wrong stuff at any time this may cause seals to leak and will invalidate warranty

the problem is on the downpipes from the front-left corner.
the leak seems to be coming from the metal "clamped" joins where the rubber hose joins the unit by the front-left lower air intake. not easy to get a pic without the car on a ramp. |

update - this is all related to power steering, not air con.
the system is weeping power steering fluid and the corrosion is quite bad on some of the parts. not a severe leak, but enough to have built up a problem over time. will be a warranty job by the looks of it. |

Was just gonna comment on this...
I had a similar issue. Noticed it when I took the sump tray off cos Id dropped a bolt, and there was slight dampness coming from the power steering pipes. Turned out to be some worn washers. |
