Car in for boot floor repair
Well guys my car is at Bluebell wilmslow repair body shop having the goodwill boot floor repair... As the crack is tiny it is having the resin injection which I was a bit unsure about at first however it appears it was either this or nothing..
The problem is the temptation to get other little bodywork issues sorted at the same time is proving to be expensive lol... So far I've asked for the carbon roof to be re-lacquered as it had a couple of marks.. The front splitters are being re-lacquered(all at a very fair price surprisingly). Gonna get a price tomorrow for a front nose paint to get rid of the stone chips... It really is a slippery slope with these cars ain't it. |

The resin just fills the void, once it's split it will keep splitting no matter what the void has in it.

There is a measurement that BMW look at in the service bulletin. I dont recall it off the top of my head, but if the crack measures under their setpoint, it's just the resin injection. If it's over, they replace the section of boot floor.

Aha, thanks James. Doesn't sound like the best of approaches from our favourite car manufacturer though, but I'm sure they know best

Just off the phone after a long chat with the extremely helpful James from Reddish who has advised me that I would be advised to have some additional strengthening done as the resin is still a little bit unknown in terms of longevity.
When I was initially told by Bluebell that because the crack was tiny, a full floor replacement wasn't possible I was disappointed initially, then re-assured by the bodyshop manager that they were very confident of this product and they have had no problems with any cars treated with it blah blah blah, Its all very annoying that we 'the customer' have to go through all this stress because of BMW's design faults.
