Default CSL AirBox Actuator Operation Questions.

Now I know the CSL AirFlap has had a lot of coverage, and there is a nice youtube video that shows when the car is revved up aggressively with sport button pressed, assumed to be over 3,000 RPM the actuator springs into life and the Flap pops open, then returns after the revs settle back down.

Now my flap was missing, and when I replaced it, I found the actuator was not working either, so managed to get one from a register member (cheers)

I fitted it, and although I can hear the actuator buzz at ignition on, and at car shut down, I don't see or hear the flap open.

before I struggle to change the position switch, I wondered if anyone can confirm the correct operation of the actuator, as I may still have one that isn't quite happy.

With my old actuator, it did nothing, didn't buzz or turn at ignition on, when just held out of the airbox housing.

There were errors on the cars memory too, about the noise flap, which have gone away with the new one being fitted.

What I would like to know is, when you have the actuator plugged it, but not in engaged in the flap, mine spins round a bit, as if it were trying to close the flap when you turn the ignition on, and also when you turn off the ignition, is this normal operation?

The other question is, that other than the actuator and the position switch, does anything else control the flap, as in could a ecu remap or mod have effected this?

many thanks in advance, and I know I can just remove the flap, but my neighbours prefer it to be in as my 6:45 rumble to work through my sleepy village is much more appreciated with the flap in place, plus stops one driving like a hooligan.

Cheers

John

Try unbolting the motor then turn ignition on hold the flp closed then bolt on the motor and try

Sport on and when it revs post 3k it should open quickly

Hope this helps

I think I read in another thread that it's possible to accidentally install the flap in the closed position with the actuator in the open position, so it's 90 degrees out of phase.

Mark's suggestion about trying it uninstalled should help work out what's wrong.

As said above, make sure the flap is in the closed position before you plug it all back in.I put mine back on this week after 18 months with it off, just to make sure it was all working.

The method of installation was as follows.

Actuator not fitted, ignition on, allowed the thing to spin as it came to life then fitted it, its a funny fit, as the keyway doesn't quite align.

The actuator always does seem to spin the same way when the ignition is on, as if its trying to close the flap to start with.
