I don't know any competent mechanic who jams the handbrake to free it up.
Did you not read the part he says the handbrake no longer works?how is forcing the handbrake gonna work?if not done soo slightly that will only pull the shoes onto a moving drum causing it to bend the mounting springs and spin the shoes alot more damage.
Your method only works when you have squeely shoes and only need to pull by one click to clean it.
