Just got my CSL!

Hi,

I've wanted to own a CSL every since the first time I saw one at the Nürburgring. About a month ago I found one here in Denmark and I pulled the trigger.

Pictures here:

I know the wheels aren't the original 19's, but those should be arriving next week.

Welcome jollerbarn, congrats on your purchase on the SB

Some good times ahead

sailorbaz 27-04-2010 10:47 AM

Welcome to the Forum mate, I think you might be our first Danish member! yay!

jollerbarn 27-04-2010 10:57 AM

Thanks!

SB stands for? :-)

As far as I know from the BMW club in Denmark only 3 CSLs exist over here. One with 0 kms in a showroom, one somewhere in Jutland and mine.

Welcome - nice CSL

SB = Sapphire Black

Hi,

It's right here:
http://www.bilbasen.dk/brugt-bil/for...D128000234.htm

Rather expensive though at 540.000DKR ~= 63.000£ for the car. Isn't that near what they retailed for at launch?

neil 27-04-2010 04:15 PM

I wanted one when I saw one at the ring too, it was steve gill's and back then it was still SG

s.mac 27-04-2010 04:20 PM

nice :smokin: and welcome :smt039
I think the 18"s look OK and maybe good for the track with some decent tyres on ;)
were they the 18's that came from the factory? cant say Ive seen a CSL with those on before :smt017

sailorbaz 27-04-2010 05:02 PM

No, it was the Standard Polished 19's that the car come with, and most taking the CSL style wheel and Cup Tyre combo as it was part of that whole CSL 'thing'.

I wasn't going to mention how much that must have cost you over there in Denmark, I know car tax is stupid over there.

CT1 27-04-2010 05:39 PM

I rather like the wheels cool

thegingerninja 27-04-2010 06:36 PM

Aren't the wheels off an old 7 series?

I think these wheels are off a very early E46 SPORT (1999-2000) vintage prior to the first E46 mild facelift in 2001 ... Sad I know

Welcome to the nut house mate,;)

jollerbarn 27-04-2010 10:10 PM

Thank you for the welcome!

I've no idea where the wheels are from actually. The seller used them for track days and had recently sold his original 19's with the cup sports on to a regular M3 owner. We have quite a few "normal" E46 M3's driving around in Copenhagen, and some owners will apparently pay to "lend" the CSL VIN-number. The guy I bought it from told me this. When I ordered the original 19's in Germany they required that I give the last 5 characters in my VIN to validate that it was a CSL before I could place the order. I like the design of the 19's a lot more and will definitely get those on there as soon as they arrive next week.

About the tax, I bought the car without tax (notice the paper license plates?). I'm only gonna drive it during the summer - if you can call it that in our part of the world? So by doing that I lease the license plates for 6 months at a time and then keep the car garaged during the winter without license plates on. It's _much_ cheaper that way since normal Danish car tax is 180% of the car's value. This way I'm only paying tax for the months I use it for driving.

It needs a retrim. The previous owner did race it a bit with gloves on. I suspect that's the issue.

They look like the same 18" wheels I had on my e46 convertible when I first bought it, I think its called BMW Style 32.

Hi,

So I just got the car out running last week with original 19's and new tires. The car runs absolutely perfectly now with zero vibration at the steering wheel. As you know I had some problems with the old tires not being balanced properly. Anyway, I gave the car a good wash and double wax coating. I'm gonna get the steering wheel retrimmed and get a set of 4 new original brake discs with pads and the car will be perfect imo. The disks are slightly warped in the front and somewhat rusty and it just bothers me, so I'm getting that done.

This is the result.

jollerbarn 17-05-2010 03:54 PM

P.S.

I updated the wipers to BMW's new "Evo flat" blades. They do work far better than the originals I must say.. and I like the design more as well.

glendog74 17-05-2010 03:54 PM

Very nice indeed - shiny shiny!

double_r 27-05-2010 05:26 PM

cslgirl 27-05-2010 10:02 PM

Stunning! And so shiney

jollerbarn 27-05-2010 11:08 PM

Thank you all :-)

The blue lights are masking tape from the waxing I did (you're probably pulling my leg, but sarcarsm is hard to pick up on forums :-))

I got brand new stock brake disks and pads installed earlier this week and this weekend I'll take some better pictures.

I did of course scratch my right rear wheel on day 2 after getting them fitted :-((
