CSL Cam Profiles

2 Attachment(s)
Having my top end rebuilt and I took the opportunity to take the new inlet camshaft and the old one into work and have my inspection department measure the cam profiles. I then converted to a CAD drawing so I can measure the wear. But I now have the exact profile of a new inlet cam. I presume the outlet is the same but mirror image. I will do the same on the outlet when it arrives to be sure.

This info could become useful if the supply of new cams ever dries up completely and we have to re-profile. If any member would a like the profile in .dxf format drop me a pm.

Wow this is awesome, thanks! According to BMW the exhaust cam on the CSL is a little bit shorter on duration for whatever it's worth

Sending you a PM

I measured the used exhaust profile and yes your right, there's 1mm difference.

My work email was down yesterday so no emails left my outbox, I will send from home over the weekend.

Cheers chaps

Hi Jupe777

I was taking a closer look at the drawing, and it looks like the profile fits that of an exhaust cam rather than an intake cam.

Take a look at the RealOEM picture (which does match reality in this case, at least for non-CSLs)

Based on where the concave section is, your intake cam profile looks more like an exhaust cam to me

Edit: Never mind, I see you had the cam oriented differently

Here's a quick comparison to the stock S54 intake cam (Apparently 260º compared to the CSL's 268º). The ramp is clearly steeper

Questions ... what are the number markings on these cams to identify it as CSL?? It seems to me that they have identical markings/numbers to stock M3 cams correct??

So armed with this info does this me the CSL community can have it's own cams ground up from the likes of catcams etc?
