Default Oil service, what oil ??

Hi there,
Just had a quote from my local BMW dealer, (castle BM in York)
apart from being pleasantly surprised at the labour charge (was expecting my pants to be pulled down on that one) the one thing that did amaze me was the charge they qoute for the oil
Labour was £47 , not so bad, Oil filter was £8 , cheap , microfilter £25 , i dont know on that one, never had one before
then the oil, 7 litres of Castrol Motorsport , £96 + vat How mucking futch !!! £113 for a fluid that is not even the best castrol sell apparently .
So i rang the guys at Opie oils who have always been great supplying the Silkolene Pro S i used on my Evos and they suggested Castrol Edge, which is better than the Motorsport as used by the dealers, and comes in 4 litre bottles , £75 +p&p for 8 litres, which leavves me with a litre for top ups
The guy at castle service said they have no problem in using my supplied oil.
Doe anyone else know of a better oil/option please or is the Edge a good option.
Many thanks, Nick

Was removing the old plates today too, but noticed the rear had no fittings to accept the screws for the plate carrier etc.

I have 2 dealers within 10 miles so called up the closest first regarding the issue..

1. Apparently there are 2 types of fittings that show up on their database but the are non specific so you would have to order both sets in person and not over the phone, as they dont stock them at a cost of £5.91

Whats a fiver in the grand scheme of things I thought

Dealer 2. He has some push in fixings that they use to plug the holes to which the carrier can then be screwed into 14p each

Bargain of the day, if they work tomorrow that is!

Always worth phoning around

For a complete change Castrol TWS 10w60 was the original requirement (as per the engine bay stamps & handbook). After that (as it was superceded) Castrol EDGE 10w60 became the requirement. Be careful not to get EDGE SPORT though as it's not the right one.

... although it's not uncommon for dealers' invoices to show something different to what was actually used, due to incorrectly labelled part-codes on their system
