Yes you can, it's in your manual - page 137 in mine.

You've obviously never push started an SMG car - you don't get warning lights. I've done this a couple of times back when I had a faulty battery.

Instruction as per manual:

"Do not attempt to tow-start a car with a catalytic converter unless the engine is cold. It is better to jump start the engine.

1. Tow-start the car with the selector lever in the N position.
2. Move the selector lever to position S, then pull it to + within 2 seconds. The correct gear is automatically selected and the clutch engaged.
3. After the engine has fired and is running, move the selector lever back to the N position.

I wish I had known this when I broke down in Italy in May. I only discovered it when informed by 'giraffe' our onsite technician in Munich from Elms Cambridge.

My starter motor packed in and I was left stranded. Obviously I didn't know it was the starter motor at the time, hindsight is wonderful though. I should have read the manual, shouldn't I?

Hi,

This proceedure does not work if the
Battery is totally dead.

Only works if there is '' some life'' in the
battery.

Fine for starter motor issues etc.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

It only takes 5v to make a shift ... so you'd have to have a pretty dud battery to make this not work at all.

I've push started my car when there were no lights whatsoever on the dash and no starter click, the battery did measure about 8.8v however.
