Front dust shields / backing plates
One of my dust shields has failed at its mounting points .. heard it rattling away when I was driving home with the windows down.
Do you lot do away with these shields or replace with OEM ? Easy to replace or does the hub / bearings need to come off ? |

B***h to replace, you can either remove hub etc or split the shield with tin snips to fit around rather than over.
My went on my e46 325 but I managed to use oversize washers to grip the shield at the mounting point which solved the issue. The holding bolts are short however and you have to be careful you don't over-tighten them. |

dust shields
Ditto what Rick H said
Shields are relatively cheap but fitting is a bit labour intensive I opted for pressing the hub out and renewing the wheel bearing while it was off.....of course did t'other side to keep my OCD in check!! |

I don't think I have front dust shields after my KW V3 install. Are they necessary to protect the bearings?

Seeing as yours a FUBAR'd, you could always fit these instead - the old ones can be cut off and these ones don't need the hub removing to be fitted, as well as offering a function for cooling the brakes .

175 FECKIN' EURO ! ! ! ! ! !
Would these work for road use? Surely they would prevent warm up of the pads such as RS29 that need a bit of heat to work? Last edited by Rick H; 31-07-2015 at 10:14 AM. |
