Thanks for that Simon.
I came from a 996tt to the CSL as I was looking for a bit more 'excitement' from a car, not to mention noise asthe 996tt had almost none. As much as I am enjoying the CSL, I have always kept an eye on 997 GT3 prices with a view to having one in the next couple of years. As much as I'm not a track master (3 - 5 trackdays per year), you have really gave me something to think about with regard to running costs and also their inability to handle our Scottish roads. The CSL, whilst stiff seems to cope with them pretty well, yet is a blast on trackdays. From what I've read looks like I might be keeping a hold of the BM for a good while longer until that Porsche deposit is a fair bit bigger to help with keeping the think going! The 996tt overall wasn't hard on the wallet, far from it tbh. OPC warranty was excellent too imo, though my car was 100% std which was a pain as they have so much potential ! Anyway - thanks again. Probably one of the most helpful GT3 posts I've read to date. Stevie |

hi all
csl vs 997 gt3 interesting debate. obviously if both are driven by drivers of equal talent the gt3 will be faster. however, after having tried the porsche route MANY times, imho i just cant get to grips with the rr setup. tbh i just dont like it. the way the front bobs up and down it lacks the composure and balance of the csl (i know if one delves deep enough you will find unparalleled levels of grip), for me anyway. my thoughts about porsche were echoed when my mate who was racing the dbrs9 (he was actually gt3 champion) decided to race a gt2 rsr. he too couldnt get to grips with the rr setup and found it difficult to push it to the limits. it took him more than a year of driving the thing to really understand it and be able to push it to the limits required in racing. imo, i would rent a gt3 take it to the track and have a blast in it. see if you are suited to the porsche rr setup, before you buy one. but for the money for the gt3 i would rather buy 2 csls, one that i would use for everyday road use, and one that i would strip down to circa 1200/1250kg and tune to around 410bhp, a real track day warrior which i think would give even the gt3 rs a real run for its money. just my 2 cents worth. |
