Good news Adem.

3wheels - camera is a GoPro Hero 3 Silver set to 720p. It's not in a case and just velcro'd to the dash, it's too low as you can see, but ok enough.
It's also got an external mic (cheapo Sony from ebay) that's connected via a long lead and run along edge of engine bay to a clip near the airbox.

great to see you all yesterday, it was a great sunny day where I could hone my track driving skills! my best time was just 1.27.01. Unfortunately I had to finish a bit earlier .
Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

Thinking of getting one of those.

Have you got wifi controller thingy? Any particular reason for external mic? Sound is nice but level seems to change a bit. As ever mount is a query. Best place over left shoulder but how to do with seats is what I'd want to know. Might make my own mount...

Basically assume there is no decent mic on a GoPro in a case. They are designed for extreme sports footage with a funky music soundtrack over the top, but of course we want actual real sound (no F10 M5's or M135i's here..) so for that you need a plug in mic, but only after you've paid Go Pro for mini-USB adaptor unfortunately.

The sound dips because on the non sunny footage I didn't have the mic plugged in. And I upped the volume on those bits to compensate.

A DSLR on a metal mount attached to rear seat headrests works really well and the built in mics are good but a Go Pro has a much wider field of view and in the same position I think you'd get too much car and not enough track.

No need for wifi controller, everything works off a smart phone and after the last software update you can view and store footage straight to an iPhone too.

Thanks for that adem that's my is plan B. Plan A is 20mm aluminium square tube attached to back of driver seat secured with aluminium strip through harness cut outs which will hopefully put camera over left shoulder.
