I started out with my heart set on a SG but after derek let me have a nose round his SB car at the weekend (CHeers Derek, Much appreciated!) Ive changed my mind, something about them looks so right in the flesh!

The first two cars I looked at back to back over a weekend were a SB and SG car. The SG car had dodgy service history but was mint, the SB car was not mint. I think it was this SG car that convinced me that's what I wanted, so I have been looking for a car as good as this one (but with correct SH) ever since. If the black one had been the mint one then perhaps I would be thinking different.

Me too!

Have noticed another one come up on PH (http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/c...sl-2003/984381) but not done anything about it yet what with Christmas and so on. Will give them a call next week if it's still there (unless any of you know it and advise otherwise).

I don't know much about the car, I phoned them earlier in the week with my usuall questions. I did not get past my first question about service history before I was out. I am quite pedantic when it comes to these things so I would advice giving them a ring. The guy I spoke to seems like he would be good to deal with and was a CSL owner himself.

It absolutely amazes me how badly the cars I have seen have been looked after. The price of a car also does not seem to have any relation to condition and history.

The running in service was not carried out until about 3k miles. I want to get a BMW warranty so this is a problem for me, I didn't get passed this and ask about the rest of the history. This does not mean its not a great car, just the first owner was a got in wrong. This is amazingly common for some reason.

Seen several with high mileage 1st services...... I suppose back then if you'd spent £58k you didn't really care about resale value 8-10 years down the line as I bet most were sold within 3 years and replaced with another expensive car.

I seriously doubt BMW will care if a running in service was carried out 1k miles late. The car is ten years old. If there was any problem with the running in service it would have blown up long before now.

I don't know if you've ever had warranty work done but they don't inspect your service book. In my experience, they are only too happy to carry out the work no questions asked.

Just buy one!

I think it's possible they would be bothered if the engine had a catastrophic failure, I am sure they would at least argue the failure was attributed to poor maintenance. Of course nothing else other than engine could be effected warranty wise.

The other issue with with a late running in service is the car is less sellable. The first car I looked at had the first service at 4500 miles and when I came on here for a second opinion on the car I was told not to touch it. It was almost given the same sort of stigma at a cat d car.
