Was planning to be near the Southampton area so arranged to go to John's house so that he could replace the mirror there and then. John's a real M3 enthusiast with his own E46 M3 and a soft spot for CSLs, cannot recommended highly enough. The replacement was done conscientiously and worked great straight away. For those who have better DIY skills than me (so everyone basically), the mirrorjohn website has detailed instructions on options and fitting. |

Interestingly my mirror dimming function never worked since i have got the car, 4 years ago. I have read that this is usually the sign for a failing mirror.. but i dont have any bubbles or leaks of course.

My mirror has started to go after trip to Le Mans Bugatti track day, so now bagged up and will be removed in the next couple of weeks.

I'd remove it soonest mate; a bag won't stop the nasties!

I suddenly noticed my mirror glass had an air bubble at the top a couple of weeks ago. Took all of your advice and got it out quickly.
I used the Mirror John replacement service, using the DIY videos it was pretty quick and easy to sort. Highly recommended. http://www.mirrorjohn.com |

Mine went last weekend, car has done 2,100km and rarely sees the light of day, but was entered in a car show on a hot day and it leaked all over the gear lever surround and fortunately did not damage the carbon console directly.
So it lasted 20 years, but had no warning at all prior to failure. |
