You've only been to Tescos and back, give it a chance ,it will level off after 40 or 50 miles.

No it went up whilst I was at Spa, so I've driven a further 300+miles since then, a bit more then a trip to Tesco's!

Cause
Poor fuel quality promotes faster oil ageing and thus a thickening of the engine oil
(oil sludging, predominantly in the cylinder head and sump).

Measure
In the event of a customer complaint, proceed as described below.

Generally applicable information:
BMW does not approve of any cleaning method that involves a flushing of the engine by
operating it with cleaning additives in the engine oil or by mixing diesel fuel with the engine oil.
Damage to the engine caused by this type of operation is not covered by the warranty.
This applies even if the flushing attempt is relatively short (e.g. 15 minutes) and at idling speed.

1) Procedure in the event of complaints concerning driving characteristics (oil sludging causing
idling complaints, misfiring, etc.):

- Read the DME fault code memory and clear it.

- Carry out an engine oil service.

- Change the coding to option 988 (maintenance interval level 2 coding = shortening of
oil service interval to 12,000 km):

Good thread this as want some fresh oil in the engine im looking at mad russians guide and regarding the pre-saturate the filter bit im little confused on how much oil he is describing to saturate the filter or maybe im going thick apart from that looks a simple job.

So does anyone here pre-saturate the filter and how much in dummy terms..

I put about 1/3 of a litre over it Jez,not down the middle though. It should take 5.5L for an oil change, but i find it always takes closer to 6L.Put 5.5 in then go for a run.My dash then usually says +0.4,so i then put a bit more in because i like to see at least +0.8.
