Absolutely correct. This happened to me after a trip to the 'ring (where the wheels got covered in dust) and it rained on the way home. I didn't get chance to clean the car until a week later and excoriating the wheels took me over 3 hours

They were so damaged that I had to get them refurbed and even though they have metalmate protection now, I am still freaked out if there's any dust accumulating. What a tragic character I have become.
