Like Shimmy said it's better to goose a £400 set than a brand new £1100 set just because your learning... he has said in numerous posts recently that if he knew what he knows now (re temp's and pressures) when he bought his CSL he would have saved £1000's in wasted CUP's. |

what you say is partly right Jim but also you can rag a set of new Cups very easily in one trackday if you are not careful and ruin them with regards to lifespan. In a perfect world buying new is best BUT if you factor in all the times when you take a new set and wear the inside edge coz our camber aint quite right or pressures are a bit too high or temps are a bit hot in summer, they are not always very good value. Once you have learnt how to look after them properly and drive without massive understeer or a loose back end then maybe.....

Mashing an older set of Cups was my logic in buying older tyres being a relative track newbie.
I agree that the ring and track specialists on here (including you Rob) it makes sense to steer clear, but a set of 'shimmy specials' makes alot of sense if your still learning / setting up the car. Am now not going to make it to Germany this year as the wife has decided on an extension and need the space back in the garage. Best Jonathan
