I'm trying to turn my 'Unlikely' status on the main page into a 'Definite' and this route looks interesting to me from Nottingham if I can go.

I normally take the tunnel to Calais but it's a trek to get there, so quite fancy the overnight ferry option, would do a half days work then head up to Hull.

I probably can't do the Salzburg part and would have to head back on the Tuesday. Will also probably have my wife with me and she is not remotely interested in cars, so not sure she'll be going round motor museums...

Now the Christmas and New Year festivities are but a distant memory, it’s time to get serious and turn your thoughts to The Homecoming - 2013” shimmy can’t do everything.

So - Let’s get Ready to Rumble: Issue 1

What do I need to take?
· Passport
· Money (obviously - some Cash in both GBP’s and Euro’s would be good)
· Credit Cards
· Driving License
· Registration Document V5
· Insurance Certificate

What else should I consider before traveling.
Insurances: A "Green Card" your insurers will provide this, it gives you fully comp cover whilst traveling in Europe. Without it you insurance cover is 3rd party only. For CCI insured vehicles contact: Lyndsey.Farmer@towergate.co.uk

Trackday Insurance: Inform your insurer of your plans by email, and seek their advice. They require a minimum of at least 2 days notice prior to any 'Trackday' event.
I would however suggest that you emphasize that this is not a free for all, it is a sponsored event with vehicles and driver tuition provided by BMW (perhaps a bit tongue in cheek, but not a blatant lie).
(Taking out any additional insurance is entirely up to you, but at c. £250 a day, 'track' cover is going cost ??? especially with an excess in the region of 5k, and a maximum pay out of around 20k.
Draw your own conclusion!)

European Breakdown Cover: I’m not sure if the BMW extended Warranty covers this. So it may be prudent to seek either advice from Mondial Assistance (UK) Ltd. Tel: 020 8681 2525 http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx or source alternative cover from CCI, AA, etc.

Holiday Insurance: approx. £20+, If you are not bothered, spare a thought for your parents/families just in case, your next of kin won't thank you for having to pay 7k in return freight costs, for your bits in a box!

A “EHIC” Card, which is a free card issued by the NHS, ask your GP, it provides you with free/reduced medical bills in the event of something unforeseen; Dentists, Doctors, Hospital, or you can apply online here: https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/startApplication.do

Considerations for Continental/European Travel:
· Warning triangle, First aid kit and Hi-Viz vest (Now compulsory for France)
· Rear Number Plate bearing the “Euro GB” motif, if not you will need a GB sticker either for the reg plate or the oval type for the back of your car.
· Headlight Adapters required for continental driving RHD to LHD beam alignment. (Not sure if this is a legal requirement but the AA advise you to do so).
· High Vis Vest
· Breathalyser 2 pack (Legal French requirement again)
· First Aid Kit
· Emergency Fire Extinguisher: 600g Dry Powder

Thanks to 'glendog74' and 's.mac' for the majority of the above text.

Just a few thoughts on the matters at hand, more to follow as and when.

Normal holiday insurance does not always cover you doing trackdays and extreme stuff (with Shimmy!) but CCI towergate will do you policy including trackday you state track/dates. It could be bit late to find out you're not actually covered just when you need to be!

Itinerary to date form what I've been able to piece together from the other threads (yet to be confirmed) but does give some indication of where we'll be and when (if you could read it)
Not to worry - Individual copies will be circulated to all members on the list of attendees

Come on you stragglers, you know where you live even if I don't?
I can think of at least 2 members who should have signed up, but perhaps they've turned to the 'dark-side' and headed South - you know who you are?

Right all,

I'm close to booking a night crossing to Rotterdam for the way out and a Eurotunnel train back (appreciate return is better value, but I can't afford a slow crossing back).

For those that have been on the Hull - Rotterdam service before, is it worth getting a cabin upgrade or paying for meals upfront ?

Thanks

I wouldnt bother with an upgrade, but I would pay for meals up front, its just easier to hand a token in.
