Am not precious about CSLs. I think they're great cars but there are some better and some worse. I've had some great laughs cornering "at speed" in my old 205 Gti. I just don't buy the straight line speed arguement unless you are at a vmax event (which doesn't appeal to me at all). Useless quality on a public road with the cameras / rozzers which leaves trackdays, which let's be fair, there are better options than an M6.....and no, I don't neccesarily mean CSL

I think my depreciation view still stands. The M6 is a mega but strikes me (from reading forums) as a technically complicated car...which is great new and warrantied but I believe a less attractive proposition to the used car buyer in the future as they fall into the hands of people who won't maintain them correctly...could see gtr going the same way for example.

Lower numbers, less complicated, smaller capacity engine, probably more enthusiast owned examples etc will probably mean the CSL will shit less of it's value which was the original basis of the question.
i can't see CSL losing much so yeah - a sound investment.

People go on about how many cameras are there but let's be honest here;

1. CSL is a fast car. 355BHP in a 1420kg will always be fast. I saw CSLs going at stupid speeds on public roads. If anything, i'd say M6 might be more fun because you reach 0 - 124mph in 12.8 seconds and slow down sooner. It takes 0 - 124 17.8 seconds in CSL to reach that speed.

2. Taking corners fast on public roads? just as dangerous

3. Trackdays are expensive.

4. There always is a compromise so a 2 - car scenario (M6 and CSL) would be a perfect combination.

5. M6 serves a totally different purpose which is evident from the very first time when you seat behind the wheel.

M6 - Comfortable, quiet, good B Road handling, HUD and 500BHP V10 sound

CSL - tape deck, poor quality audio (can't hear radio properly @ 90mph) fixed seat position, not comparable to M6 comfort on any level, loud but somewhat... it appeals more to certain people and am fine with that. It's that raw feeling i guess, the awesome induction sound, the metalic exhaust sound.

I guess what i am trying to say is that CSL and M6 DO NOT compare. Apples to oranges.

.... but, i have seen one M6 sold @ £14k on auction.

Fit top of the range Motons, Swap seats to BMW Performance and wheels to BBS FI (the lightweight 7.7kg found on Ferrari 599) Brembo brakes.
Acrapovic full exhaust... 530bhp guaranteed.
Michelin cups tyres

You end up with a car which could make it feel much more RAW. It'd be faster, louder (in a good way) and all for £35K... which some like Nick Johnson ask for a CSL (low milage)

Hi,

Quote- ''I might try that mate, like you say they are fun for raw power but it will probably get boring after a while.''

V10 Boring ? never on your life.

Just think of all the endless fun of trying
to get it recovered 24/7, all thy different loan
cars you will experince while its being fixed,
all that extra Post and endless phonecalls
regarding what is and what is not covered by
warranty, and the best bit of all is the Magic
and fun in getting a 2 ton Exocet back home
in one piece when it decides at Mach 2
that Limp Mode is much better for the environment.

I mean anything with 3 oil pumps, 125 psi + Vanos pressure
actuators on just about everything, 40 valves
and the blindingly smooth SMG 111 is not going
to be troublesome, now is it ?

No, I defy anybody that says the V10 is
boring, christ people que in 100 + degree
heat at Disney for hours on end
for such an unknown adventure as this.

The raw unknown excitement of SMG 11 on the CSL
does not even come close to V10 Ownership.

Had mine 3 weeks, which is 21 days in primate
speak, it spent 13 in the dealers 4 in limp
mode and about 2 on the back of recovery
vehicles.

V10 is Joy !!!!

If you do hire one, I would not stray to far from
home though.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

15000 M6 V10 built, twice that number on E60 M5 and all suffer the same fate..... Outrage! 2007 / 57 models are vastly improved and you hardly ever hear of SMG hydrolic pump failure or Vanos for that matter on these models.

If we were to talk i.e. Audi RS6 C5 and the fantastic DRC suspension then i'd agree - this subject made forum headlines, worldwide.

Indeed, early 2004 - 2006 models did have serious issues. Also, compare start up on 2004 - 06 to facelift model sound.

M6 production ceased summer 2010. If these cars were to be so troublesome then surely, BMW would have gone bust big time.

Ok, last I'll say on this......

M6 = Jordan. Deep down, we'd all have a go and you know it would be a mega experience. High speed madness with you beer goggles on for one night but wake up the next morning and you realise fugly with the ability to rape your wallet.

CSL = Pippa Middleton. Class, beautiful with a good dress sense. Nice arse and you could see a future without the $$ worry. Probably not a one night wonder but consistant.

Nail.Head.The End.
