The csl is the best car I have owned. I love it. The m5 is not a comparison. But if I was rich enough and I wanted an every day car I think it would be difficult to beat. Now it is way to much money, but when it gets affordable which will not be long it will be an even better car!!

I love the newer M5's but they're so expensive to run. I think the e39 M5 is the best balance of performance/comfort without the astronomical running costs. I had one and loved it but sold it to help pay for the CSL. Ideal garage would be to have them both

I had some time with a new M5 a couple of weeks ago. I just thought it was underwhelming.
The problem it has is its M character only comes out when you drive it like a nutter, and it's so big and fast that you hardly ever get the chance. When you drive it around normally its too quiet, too soft, feels big and clumsy and boring. With the old M5, and obviously the CSL, you get constant M character from the car just by plodding about, you know it's special, you don't to need to go full phsyco. For 95% of the time you may as well have a diesel. |

I also think it feels totally bespoke compared to the rest of the F10 range. My Dad's new 535d is amazing for the car it is but feels nothing like the M5. There's M magic in there.
