I just used the calculator quickly to show the maximum speed difference - as you can see from the chart below - quite a big margin of difference:
When I get some more time I'll sit down and try and make sense of it all. (theoratical speeds are in miles per hour) |

although i have to say Auto mode 5/6 on track is pretty good, you should try it, i nearly keep getting overtaken by someone who uses it all the time!
