Right I have some clarity now, basically Classicline will hold your no claims at the amount they were when you joined them, in my case 6 years. As and when I need them they will issue a letter for proof. I've just agreed £666 31 yr old, 56k mile CSL with supersprint and full AP's. Guaranteed value at £55k.

Tried classic line today. Good quote, but there was another interesting perspective.
I asked about the protected no claims (mine is full) and they had quoted me without taking this into account. I.e no no claims. I asked they run it again, and the quote was no different, telling me for these types of policies, no claims didn't really matter. Then I said, what if I decide to move my insurance on from them to another provider at a future point, there was a convuleted explanation around other classic car insurance would prob honour it, but the mainstream firms might not because they have an expectation that a punters no claims bonus is used against their daily, not the car they're insuring with classic line. Now, even though I rarely drive CSL, it's my main insured car. The daily GTi is in wife's name. So another consideration...depending on your usage and insurance set up with other cars |

That's to say, do not insure CSL through these guys if it's your main insured car.
Now I'm gonna have to buy an M2 to transfer my main insurance NCB to (what I told the missus)... And run CSL through classic without NCB. |

Stuck with cci as no time to faff flipping stuff around.
Raised insured value from £35k to £50k (although not guaranteed value) Added 3 points speeding pinch from last month Reduced annual mileage from 6K to 4K (still more than I did last year) Premium compared to last year is down ~30% Ok I think ? |

There are no universal 'rules' as such for NCD, it's really vague.
I agree with the post above that if it's your main insured car, I wouldn't insure through Classicline as their risk models/policies don't really work in a world of 'building up' NCD. They don't risk model it, or track it. They have said they will keep proof on file to be passed on to a future insurer, but you are relying on the future insurer to accept it. (and underneath all this it's just a tick in an electronic box to feed into a machine....) |
