A slightly unflattering comparison

Yes, I can see the original M3 sitting very uncomfortably next to it and frowning in disgust

Look chaps, you may not like the looks and marketing but why not wait until you drive the thing.

I've spoken to someone who has (not a BMW employee) and he reckons it's an absolute hoot and genuinely feels like an M car. A whole different planet from a 335i.

I'm booking a test drive as soon as it's possible. Not looking to buy but I want to try it. I personally love the looks. It's significantly pumped up over the base models and the fact it's only available with a manual box makes it clear it's a drivers car.

Where's the fun in that ? I don't need any actual facts to base my speculation upon

Lots of negativity surrounding this car...?

I have to say that i agree with Alex - one can can hardly write a car off based on sill lines or price alone without first having a decent test drive. I for one quite like the look of it - although maybe not in that half-arsed red colour!

At the end of the day its an 'M' car albeit at the lower end of the 'M' spectrum and should not be viewed as anything other IMHO. BUT - it will still be a very good car, of that i have no doubt!

My point exactly, people dislike the iPad in the same way, as it doesnt do this and that bla bla bla, its still selling in droves, over 7 million infact in the few months it's been out, it leads the pack others follow.

1 series M will no doubt do the same V it's Audi / VW rivals, and it's done it's job if it does !

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion Matt, you dont like end off, I do, end off

I will booking a test drive also so I can see if it is a little bundle of fun in the flesh

IMHO I don't need to drive it to know it's going to be V. good (although I'd like to have a cheeky test drive ) ...that's not the issue here but there is so much more to a truly GREAT M car then just how well it drives, the M3 CSL being the ultimate example to my point ( I knew there was a CSL Register connection somewhere )
Our beloved M3 CSL was by no means 100% perfect (brakes, overall weight and the initial O.T.R. price ) but it was developed from an already impressive E46 M3 platform and made better in very limited numbers with super cool instant classic looks from the word GO that get better as time slips by . I'm sorry but the 1 Series is not an amazing platform to start with ( have you driven the 116i ? ) It's more of an expensive VW Golf alternative for BMW to fill an imaginary Marketing gap with, for wan-a-be BMW snobs who can't quite stretch to decent 6 pot 3 Series territory but we live in a democracy (last time I checked) and at the end of the day if all you want is a half baked, overpriced "M-arketing" Coupe 1 Series as a run-about to massage your ego on daily basis, then this will be perfect IMHO obviously

The missis has 1 series Coupe (120d) M sport, running KW's and 10mm spacers, it's great fun to drive, feels planted, and for a daily shitter it ticks the boxes, and in white ( with a cheeky bit of carbon wrap roof) it looks v nice. So yes I have driven one !
