So is it better to spend £55k on a cat D with 46000 or £55k on a non cat D with double those miles and a service history ?

Well that came into my thinking when I bought the car.
Cat D’s are generally written off for petty pointless things.

All I was interested in was
No chassis damage- check
No body damage and good paint- check
Structurally sound- check
Mechanically sound- check
And proof of all important running in service- check

Anything else doesn’t bother me, service history doesn’t interest me as it still doesn’t prove how the car is treated in between services, just because it has some paperwork doesn’t mean it hasn’t been ragged to within an inch of its life.
At the end of the day buying any car is a gamble.

I once went to see my mate who works in a body shop working on an unregistered merc with 90% of the passenger door covered with filler ready to be sent back across the road to a main merc dealer to spray then be sold on to an unsuspecting owner thinking it’d just arrived from Germany in perfect condition.

But at the end of the day, each to their own!
Everyone has their own logic and as usual mine appears twisted!

Wouldn’t be anything like that imo.

I doubt I’d get much more than £40k for my 83k mile car with FBMWSH and extd warranty - std car with extra bits (wheels, steering wheel, trip, flippers, dealer extras etc)

Totally agree with rob regarding service history , but I would as I also do my own ,, but I do believe most are very anal regarding service history,, so probably will affect sale at top price ,, way I look at it what I’ve saved on services, I guess I’d would offset some value in asking price to get a sale, I recon 55k is optimistic at the moment for a quick sale,, hope you get it rob Would be interesting if them that have sold would reveal what they got ,, give us all a realistic value.

According to one on eBay with similar mileage yours is worth £73k.

I’m no car salesman or vehicle estimater I’m just a normal bloke and all I’ve done is taken the average price of ones I’ve seen with similar to slightly higher miles and condition based on pictures and gone with that minus a few k to allow for the cat d and lack of history!

It would be nice to know what some of these do actually go for in the end.

Nice to know someone else does their own works and see’s my point of view.
And it would seem the price going by the feedback and shock the price is optimistic. It would be interesting to know what the realistic values are.
I will certainly reconsider the price,
Also returning it to standard aswel looks like it will maybe help.

Extended BMW Warranty was a must for me..but not so important for anyone that does their own work.

Remove the mods as mentioned above and see how it goes..shame you can’t locate some form of paperwork on the Cat D history?
