I leave mine at +0.8L or so as i do a few track outings and don't want too much additional oil floating around! I just add a little as it burns off over the miles.
Mine lost the dash display and showed --:-- again just before the Ring trip due to a few necessary short journeys, it has shown +1.0L beforehand but when it came back on the run up to the Eurotunnel it now reads +1.1L!? How can that be and is it normal and ok for it to actually go up?

Sounds like your electronic dip tick is playing up proper m8 as the reading should have fallen a bit after the recent EURO jaunt or U've put too much oil in her, initially. Get it checked by BMW... warranty solutions

Well it's going into Murkett's for it's Inspection II soon so I'll be making the list ready for Andy to check it over, I think there's around 2.5k miles left on it before inspection.

I've not put any oil in it since owning it so I've definately not over-filled it and it didn't lose/use any over the 1100 miles it covered at the recent Euro trip!?

HELP!

M8... if you haven't put any oil in your CSL since your ownership, especially after a few UK Track Days and the recent EURO trip U've either got an incredibly tight S54 engine or you're running low on oil These engines are meant to use a bit of oil (I think something like 1 litre per 1500 miles or 1500 km ? ) If I were U I'd get the CF air box off and check your oil level the good-old fashioned way, with the hidden dip-stic beneath Better be safe then sorry Video clip of "How To" below

Might have to try and do that over the weekend then, if it's fooking dry that is!

Does forcing a reading from the Sport button make any difference at all? I suppose IF it's not reading correctly then it won't!

Thanks for the video mate!

Mate, it's not normal to consume oil, unless the engine started to wear out.
BMW gives this ridiculous amounts for 'warranty' reasons.
If the S54 consumes 1lt / 1000km, it is ranked as a 2-stroke engine.

Personally I change the oil every 5000 km.

As said (I forgot to hunt the technical specification, need to ask my brother), there is a bulletin saying that the dealers need to change the oilservice intervals for S54 powered cars from 25.000km to 12.500km.

Guys, I highly recommend you to change the oil very often in the S54 (unless you are Duncan and you change the engine oftenly ).

Matt, I will poke my brother to send me the bulletin today and then we can all go and push the dealers to do their job !

Well, in that case I'd better pre order my NEW S54 engine from Murketts, under Warranty then Joking aside, I've mentioned this to Andy Pressland @ Murketts and he said the oil consumption on these S54 engines was quite normal, mine being less then some others he's seen, so now I'm a little confused on this issue. I've been keeping a keen eye on my CSL's oil consumption and over the last 7000 miles it's been in the region of 0.3 - 0.4 litre for every 1000 miles, depending of ambient temperatures and how hard it's been driven (i.e. commuting or mostly TD work) no prices for guessing my intended usage
I'd be VERY interested to see & read the official BMW bulletin, advising increased Oil change solutions.
Thank you please
